Cataract is an eye disease that usually occurs in the senior years. It is a condition in which the transparent lens, which is designed to refract light reflected in the eye, loses its function over time and becomes cloudy, dark and hazy. Due to cataract, light falls on the retina at a more minimal level, resulting in a decrease in visual function. The lack of colour saturation affects many activities such as driving a car, reading a newspaper and carrying out daily tasks. In summary, cataract is an eye problem that needs to be treated.
Your patient comfort is kept at the highest level with your cataract surgeries in our affiliated institutions. As GHT Global Health team, we will always be with you throughout your entire process and will always make you feel at home.
The most preferred surgical intervention method for the cataract operation is surgery. Local anaesthesia is preferred in the surgery which is usually completed in less than 1 hour. Injections or drops are applied before the operation and the patient does not feel any discomfort. Cataract surgery, is performed by removing the lens of the eye that has lost its structural properties and replacing it with an artificial lens, which does not require hospitalisation.
Two types of techniques are generally applied in cataract surgery. In FECO cataract surgery, the lens that has lost its function is separated into small pieces and removed by laser or ultrasound through an incision in the eye and a new lens is placed in the eye. In some patients, extracapsular cataract surgery called PECCE is preferred. This type of surgery is performed through a larger incision in the eye without any fragmentation of the lens of the eye.
