Ear surgery, also known as otoplasty, protruding ear surgery or otoplasty, is an operation to correct a deformity in the ear and give it an aesthetic appearance. Usually carried out on adults, the surgery can also be carried out on children over the age of 6. The operation is carried out under general or local anaesthetic. During the operation, the skin at the back of the auricle is removed. A prominent ear is the appearance that occurs when the ear is further away from the head due to an increase in the angle between the head and the ear. The appearance of a prominent ear can also be caused by a deep outer ear socket in some patients.
