Rhinoplasty, which is defined as nose reshaping surgery, is a surgical procedure that is performed to give a person a more aesthetically pleasing nose and to allow them to breathe in a healthy way. Many problems such as nasal bow, nose size, drooping nose tip, disproportionate nostrils, which are visually uncomfortable for the person, can be eliminated by rhinoplasty surgery.
Thanks to the development and innovation of medical technologies, rhinoplasty has become an operation that can be carried out in a short time using various techniques to give a more aesthetic appearance to the nose. Breathing problems due to the curvature of the nasal bones, which are common today, can also be treated with rhinoplasty.
Open rhinoplasty: In open rhinoplasty, the doctor lifts the skin of the nose by making an incision along the columella, the line that separates the nostrils from each other. The nose skin and soft tissue are then removed and the nose is reshaped. Open rhinoplasty is often considered the preferred method because it gives the surgeon more access to the tip of the nose, the back of the nose, the nasal septum, the external nostrils and the entire nasal structure, such as the cartilage.
Closed rhinoplasty: In the closed rhinoplasty procedure, the incisions are made only through the nose. Because it is less invasive, the surgeon has less access to different parts of the nose. Since the entire procedure is performed through the nostrils, there is little or no postoperative scarring.
Two different techniques are used in rhinoplasty. Open rhinoplasty is performed by making an incision in the area between the inside of the nostrils and the bridge of the nose. Closed rhinoplasty is performed by making an incision inside the nostril. Both types of surgery have different advantages and disadvantages for both the surgeon and the patient. The decision about which technique to use depends on the type of problem the person is having.

In addition to aesthetic problems in people considering rhinoplasty surgery, an important criterion considered is the deterioration in respiratory and olfactory functions. If the patient does not have such a problem, the cartilage and bone development of the nose is expected to be completed. For this reason, the age criteria are 18 for men and 16-17 for women. There is no upper age limit for the operation.
