What is labiaplasty?

Surgery to correct aesthetic problems in the female genital area is called labiaplasty. Inner lip reduction, which is usually performed when the inner lips are asymmetrical, large, dark, irregular or drooping, is a commonly preferred procedure within labiaplasty. Rarely, reduction or augmentation of the outer lips is also considered as part of labiaplasty.

When is a labiaplasty procedure necessary?

The main reason for genital aesthetics, as with many aesthetic procedures, is dissatisfaction with an existing appearance. The reflection of this dissatisfaction in sexual life, emotional stress, self-confidence problems, etc. are factors that trigger the need for labiaplasty. Another important reason for labiaplasty is hygiene. Laxity in this area can lead to chronic infection or irritation. At the same time, it can cause an unpleasant appearance in clothing such as swimsuits, bikinis and underwear. These are all reasons why a labiaplasty procedure may be a good idea.

How is labiaplasty performed?

Labiaplasty is performed under general, local or regional anaesthetic to remove excess tissue from the labia. The patient will not feel any pain or soreness during the procedure. The operation is completed after the removed tissue has been repaired and a symmetrical appearance has been achieved.
