Gastric bypass surgery is one of the most common types of bariatric surgery. Gastric bypass surgery is usually used when diet and exercise have not worked, or when there has been a serious increase in weight that can lead to serious health problems. Gastric bypass surgery involves creating a small pouch from the stomach and connecting the newly created pouch directly to the small intestine. As the volume of the stomach is reduced, the patient’s food intake is reduced and calorie intake is prevented.

Who is suitable for gastric bypass surgery?

How is the gastric bypass surgery performed?

A comfortable operation process awaits you during the gastric bypass operation you will perform in our contracted institutions. As the GHT Global Health team, we will be with you at all times during the whole process and will make sure that you feel at home at all times.

Gastric bypass surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. Hospitalisation is approximately three to five days. Four to six holes 1 cm in diameter are made and the stomach and tissues are accessed. The stomach is divided into two parts, leaving 5% of the stomach at the junction with the pharynx. Parts of the stomach remain inside and the newly formed stomach pouch is attached to the lower part of the small intestine with sutures. Thus, food bypasses most of the stomach and the first part of the small intestine. After gastric bypass surgery, patients are recommended to stay in hospital for about three to eight days. It is very important to pay attention to the doctor’s dietary recommendations in the postoperative period.
