What is hair transplantation?

Hair transplantation, one of the most effective treatment methods recommended for hair loss, is a solution applied against baldness and thinning problems. Hair transplantation, which can also be defined as the transplantation of hair follicles taken by microsurgical methods from areas where hair follicles are not active and baldness is seen, is a personalised application.

During the procedure, hair follicles that are resistant to hair loss are harvested from the back of the head and transplanted into the channels in the areas where thinning or complete loss is observed. Hygiene and sterilisation are very important in hair transplantation, which should be performed by specialist doctors or teams experienced in this field.

How is hair transplantation performed?

Hair transplantation is an operation performed under local anaesthesia or sedation. In the first stage of the operation, grafts are harvested from the area suitable for transplantation. This area is usually the back of the neck. Then the canals are opened and the collected grafts are transplanted into the canals. Immediately after the transplantation, various leakage formations may occur from the channels opened for transplantation. However, such a situation is not encountered the next day. Although some patients may experience swelling in the relevant area, it can be eliminated with some medications and precautions.

What are hair transplantation techniques?

How long does hair transplantation take?

The duration of the transplantation process varies depending on the area to be transplanted. However, it is generally possible to talk about an average of 4 to 6 hours.

Who is suitable for hair transplantation?

The age range for hair transplantation is generally 18-60. However, one of the most important criteria affecting this situation is the type of hair loss in the person. In order to define a hair loss that has occurred on the scalp at a visible level, it is necessary to talk about a hair loss of 50%.  In this case, the duration of the hair loss is taken into consideration rather than the age of the person. In some patients, problems such as hair loss due to any disease, trauma are also important factors affecting the success of the transplant.

How many grafts are needed for hair transplantation?

The minimum number of grafts needed for transplantation varies between 2500 and 4500. This number, which can be defined as an average of 7000 to 8000 hair strands, is also influenced by the patient’s hair loss level and the availability of free space.
